Restoring Fifth Avenue’s Gilded Icon at 120 Years

Friday, February 27, 2026

Grandeur on Fifth Avenue is not preserved by chance. It is restored with discipline, coordination, and expert craftsmanship. At The St. Regis New York, union contractors and carpenters with the New York City District Council of Carpenters are executing a meticulous renovation as the landmark hotel marks its 120th anniversary.

The 255,000 square foot transformation spans the lobby and public spaces, where skilled crews are installing new flooring systems, acoustical assemblies, architectural woodwork, and interior office systems. Every phase of work is carefully sequenced to protect the hotel’s original 1904 Beaux Arts architecture while introducing refined contemporary elements across the lobby, the King Cole Bar, and dining venues.

In a setting where history and hospitality must coexist without disruption, this skilled workforce is delivering the specialized labor, planning, and craftsmanship required to restore one of New York City’s most celebrated addresses while maintaining uncompromising performance standards at every stage.
