Renovations are progressing at the historic Waldorf Astoria at 301 Park Avenue. Historic Frick Collection Set to Reopen, Showcasing Union-Enhanced Renovations

The Frick Collection, an art museum established in 1935 and located at 1 East 70th Street, plans to reopen in April 2025, after renovations and upgrades. The historic building, updated by union contractors and carpenters from the New York City District Council of Carpenters, houses an extensive collection originally assembled by Henry Clay Frick. Thanks to this expansion and renovation, it will hold even more works from the Renaissance until the nineteenth century. The updated building will feature the mansion’s second floor, increasing the permanent collection by 25%, as well as new facilities including an education room, an auditorium, and a 60-seat cafe overlooking the beautiful 70th Street Garden. The East Midtown Greenway

February 2024 marked the grand opening of the East Midtown Greenway, spanning from East 53rd Street to East 61st Street in Manhattan. The Greenway’s design showcases three integral components: a pedestrian bridge, an in-water structure, and a topside landscape with a bike path. New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building

Moynihan Train Hall

The newly completed Moynihan Train Hall has nearly doubled the existing Penn Station rail complex. This has given city commuters a new spacious and world-class transit hub. Nordstrom NYC

For Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom, only the best would do in its new Manhattan location at the base of the Central Park Tower on 57th St. and Broadway. Visitors are greeted by a wavy, transparent glass curtain wall leading into seven stories and 320,000 square feet of unparalleled luxury shopping space.

Kosciuszko Bridge

Led by the Skanska-Kiewit-Ecco III joint venture on Phase 1 and Granite Construction Northeast on Phase 2, this $873 million project to replace the aging Kosciuszko Bridge that connects Brooklyn and Queens was completed on-budget and four years ahead of schedule with union carpenters and contractors. The TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport

The historic TWA terminal at JFK Airport is once again open for business after a complete redesign and renovation as a hotel. The new design is inspired by the 1960s space-age futurism, paying homage to the building’s golden era. This development features union-made luxury interiors and a stunning natural-light lounge with floor to ceiling windows. The New York Proton Center

New York’s very first proton treatment center opened in 2019 in East Harlem. Millwrights from Local Union 740 of the New York City District Council of Carpenters, working with Bay Crane, did the critical alignments with an unparalleled level of precision for this cutting-edge cancer treatment facility. Union contractors also worked on the drywall, interiors, and furniture installation for this project. The MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art

The museum’s new internal structure will feature a new 30,000 square foot gallery and a re-imagined layout meant to create a more accessible, inclusive experience for visitors. This $450 million project also extended the museum’s historic Bauhaus stairs and added a first-floor lounge. The museum’s makeover has been received very positively since it reopened in October of 2019. Union contractors Wood Pro 2 Installers, Sherland & Farrington, Inc., Consolidated Carpet, National Acoustics, and Kay & Sons worked on this renovation with The New York City District Council of Carpenters.

Fisher Houses

Union carpenters are proud to have worked on the Fisher Houses project in the Bronx. Since 2019, these homes have provided free lodging for military families of patients at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. Guests can form a community at Fisher Houses, helping each other through difficult times. Pyramid Floor Covering Inc., Rivco Construction LLC, and Ruttura and Sons Construction were on this job with the New York City District Council of Carpenters.

Brooklyn Point

Construction at 138 Willoughby Street, also known as Brooklyn Point, is nearing completion. This 68-story, 720-foot-tall skyscraper will be the tallest tower in the borough. Union contractors Universal Builders Supply Inc., Safway Atlantic, Insulation Contractors Inc., R&J Construction Corp., and Urban Foundation/Engineering are working with the New York City District Council of Carpenters to put the finishing touches and this addition to our skyline.

Bayonne Bridge Renovation

This ambitious union-built project elevated the bridge’s deck by 64 feet to accommodate modern cargo ships. A brand-new bike and pedestrian lane were also added. Union carpenters worked with contractors Ferreira Construction Company, Skanska/Koch/Kiewit JV, and American Pile and Foundation on this critical upgrade to our region’s infrastructure.

School Construction Authority

The House by Handel Architects project at the Cornell Tech site

The House at Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island is a Passive House with an ultra-low energy certification and 352 apartments for students and faculty. Union carpenters worked with contractors including Anchormen Construction for the foundation, SBF Contracting for the concrete superstructure, Exterior Erecting Services and Duggan & Marcon for exterior wall panels, Woodworks Construction for interior finishes, and Re:Source New Jersey for flooring.

Brooklyn Navy Yard

Trevcon Construction Company and Local Union 1556 working on a new pier at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This $80,000,000 reconstruction of Pier C will serve as the new city-wide ferry service home port in New York City.

One Manhattan Square

Extell Development’s 80-story tower at One Manhattan Square includes 1.2 million square feet of space, 815 residences and stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge and city skyline. Brookfield Properties is developing this 7 million square feet mixed use project that includes offices, housing, a hotel, retail and a public plaza built over rail lines. Union carpenters and contractors are now working on this $4.5 billion project in the Hudson Yards neighborhood.

InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel

This gem of east midtown Manhattan hotels recently underwent a $175 million renovation that recreates its original 1926 luster. Cord Contracting Co. and a team of union carpenters were proud to rebuild the lobby, ballrooms and 700 guest room interiors.
