Union Carpentry Drives Pier 42 Revitalization

Pier 42, located on the Lower East Side, officially opened its recreational facilities. Thanks to union contractors and carpenters with the New York City District Council of Carpenters, the local community and other visitors will be able to enjoy the many new offerings. The waterfront park, once an abandoned industrial building and parking lot, has been revitalized with renovated pier supports, dock, and turf. Amenities within the eight-acre area include a turf soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, and play areas for children. The hard work and dedication of union carpenters and contractors have transformed Pier 42 into a vibrant community space.
