A New Community Hub in Brownsville

Friday, October 16, 2026

Brownsville has a new place to connect, gather, and access vital community services. Union contractors and carpenters with the New York City District Council of Carpenters built the new $128 million Brownsville Multi-Service Center at 444 Thomas S. Boyland Street, completed two years ahead of schedule and $10 million under budget.

The four-story, 60,000-square-foot center provides a new home for community organizations and Brooklyn Community Board 16, bringing a variety of services and gathering spaces together in one location. The facility includes offices, flexible meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, and a 1,600-square-foot outdoor community garden, with spaces designed to support programs and activities for residents of all ages.

Union carpenters and contractors brought the skill and craftsmanship needed to build a modern, welcoming space for the Brownsville community. Its ahead-of-schedule, under-budget completion is another example of the value union carpentry brings to New York City.
