Local 1556 dockbuilders and divers with the New York City District Council of Carpenters are hard at work at the Living Breakwaters site with Weeks Marine, Inc. laying rock mattresses down on the water to prevent erosion while allowing natural vegetation to establish. Divers help place the mattresses underwater while the dockbuilders run the deck engines to move the barges. The project, which is estimated to cost around $60 billion, will help prevent massive storm damage following super storms like we saw 10 years ago with Hurricane Sandy.

The Javits Center hosts some of the largest and most unique conventions and expos in the country. To make them happen, companies rely on the great skill and safety standards that union contractors and the New York City District Council of Carpenters provide. The Javits Center is home to the famous New York City Comic Con and as usual union carpenters brought their best. The show was a great success with unique exhibits that were #UnionBuilt.
